Off The Grid

Wow … sort of just fell off the radar there for a while. School is out, but I picked up on this project I’m working on for my adviser, and got sucked into it. It’s this massive computation that involves balancing all kinds of issues, mathematical, programmatical, and technical. I’ve sort of been obsessing and not doing anything else, but I realized today that I’d made a massively incorrect assumption that affected all my data since the beginning. Which bothered me to no end, to say the least. But I’ve come up with some neat stuff – basically turning this massive graph exploration into a matter of string substitution rules. It’s cool. Maybe I’ll talk about it. A neat exercise in reformulating problems!

I’ve got two problems I want to talk about, wanted to talk about them for a while now, but to do that I need to write something up about linear algebra – basic stuff, but there’s a lot of it, and I’m caught in that sort of limbo where I’m never really sure just how technical or how simple to make things. I think I’m going to try to finish that before the weekend.

Other than that I don’t have much to add right now except that I’m not dead, still doing math, grades turned out excellently, and if you, dear reader, haven’t seen Iron Man, or In Bruges for that matter, you are certainly worse off for it.
